Playlab.net || Mark Rochefort

My name is Mark Rochefort and this is my website - a place where I like to play and learn. Are you still searching? I doubt you'll find it here but you might find some other guff - sometimes with photos.
Or you could try looking down here ↓

About

A little bit about me

Who? Web monkey and star gazer.
Where? London/ Brighton, UK.
Likes? Trees, travel and technology. Beer, bikes and bees.

There’s not much to tell really but the inevitable Twitter, del.icio.us, flickr, last.fm and upcoming profiles might give the casual lurker/ stalker some more fodder. In terms of work, my CV and my LinkedIn profile might help too.

Buy me a beer (ideally Harvey’s Sussex Best) and you won’t be able to stop me ranting on about the collaborative and socially empowering potential of the internet. I like to travel and learn from foreign customs and cultures. Many a technological widget, philosophical fancy or scientific idea will distract me for a while. And I try to remember to put out the recycling on Thursdays.

A little bit about this site (and a brief caveat emptor)

This site is the personal website of Mark Rochefort and is constantly evolving. So there’s always something that I’m tweaking here or there – if something’s missing or not quite working then please be patient!

A little bit of history

In March 2001, I started blogging (albeit a tad sporadically) and this site has since evolved over the past few years into what you see here today.

What’s with the domain name?

The more observant among you will have noticed I use both playlab.net and stillsearching.co.uk for this website.

Playlab.net has been my domain of choice for things I enjoy playing with (and learning from) for years and years – a kind of digital playground / laboratory, if you will. In March 2004, I founded Playlab Ltd.

Stillsearching.co.uk was originally inspired by a track from the late 90s but can be taken to apply to a whole bunch of things – maybe you’re still searching for stuff on the web or maybe even you’re still searching for the ultimate question to the ultimate answer?

Credits

This site simply wouldn’t be possible without the Open Source community – it is built with WordPress and relies on some excellent plugins and themes from various developers and designers from around the world. There’s too many to name individually but I want to say “thank you” to the following in particular:

  • Tan Tan Noodles – for the excellent Flickr Photo Album plugin for WordPress (that I’ve hacked into submission for my photos page)
  • Derek Punsalan – for the beautiful Foliage WordPress theme (that I’ve extended for this site)
